Accountant for Freelancers

Accountant for Freelancers

An accountant for freelancers who already knows how you work.

You bill when the work lands, run more than one client at a time, and would rather not spend Sunday evening working out what you owe HMRC. Accrue works with freelancers every day: a fixed monthly fee, AAT-qualified accountants, and questions answered the day you ask them.

  • Your tax bill known months in advance, not sprung on you in January
  • Every expense you are entitled to, claimed properly
  • FreeAgent or Xero included, so your books stay current
  • Sole trader or limited modelled on your actual numbers

No long-term contract. If it is not working after three months, you leave with clean books and nothing owed.

Why freelancers choose Accrue

Everything we do is underpinned by three objectives

💰

Wealth

We turn your hard work into the financial reward you deserve - every expense claimed, your tax planned in advance, and more of what you earn kept.

🎓

Knowledge

We are fully AAT-qualified experts who work with freelancers and contractors every day. You get clear answers without explaining how your work functions first.

Time

We make your time the priority - bookkeeping software, deadlines tracked and the admin you dislike most handled, so you can get on with the work.

How it works

Your accounts made simple

Keeping track of your finances does not have to be a headache. Three steps and the rest is handled.

1

Get in touch

Fill in the quote form with a few details about your work. We come back to you within one working day with a fixed-fee figure.

2

Discovery call

A short, no-pressure call to understand how you bill and what you need. You leave knowing exactly what happens next.

3

We'll handle the rest

We manage the switch from your old accountant and set up your software. Your books, tax and deadlines are then taken care of.

Sound familiar?

Freelance tax is a moving target. Most accountants treat you like a small company.

Freelance income rarely arrives in neat monthly amounts, which makes tax harder to plan than it should be. A generalist practice files the return but rarely plans ahead of it, and rarely knows how irregular income, multiple clients, or an outside-IR35 contract actually work.

  • Tax money set aside by guesswork, then hoping it covers the bill
  • Receipts and invoices scattered across email, apps and the car
  • No clear answer on whether sole trader or limited costs you more

What sorted looks like

Accrue handles the compliance, but also the planning behind it: your tax position year-round, your expenses claimed in full, and the numbers when a decision needs making.

  • A running figure for your tax bill, so you set aside the right amount as you go
  • Bank-connected software keeps your books current through the year
  • Sole trader vs limited modelled on your actual numbers, not a generic answer
  • Fixed monthly fee, no charge for a ten-minute call

What you get

Three things your fee covers

Compliance handled correctly, tax planned in advance, and your structure reviewed when it needs to be. All through cloud accounting software.

01

Your tax bill, months in advance

We keep a running figure for what you will owe, so you can set the right amount aside as you go. Self assessment becomes a quick review rather than a January scramble, and there is no end-of-year shock.

Included as standard
02

Every expense, claimed properly

Home office, equipment, software, professional subscriptions, travel to client sites - claimed in full. FreeAgent or Xero is included, bank-connected, so nothing is missed and nothing is left on the table.

Software included
03

Sole trader or limited, answered

We model both against your actual numbers and tell you which leaves you better off, and when it is worth switching. A clear answer, not a hedge - and revisited when your income changes, not just when you ask.

Why Accrue

What separates a freelancer's accountant from a generalist

Most accountants will file your return. Fewer will tell you in March that your structure needs reviewing before April.

💰

Fixed monthly fees, nothing hidden

You know exactly what you pay, with no surprise invoices and no charge for every question you ask. Unlimited advice and support is included - call, email or message your accountant as often as you need.

🤝

A named accountant, not a call centre

You get one qualified accountant who knows your work from day one, replies the day you ask, and explains things in plain English. Reviews mention the same names year after year for a reason.

📤

Switching handled for you

We handle the move from your old accountant, so you do not have to do anything complicated to come across. Clients regularly describe the transition as smooth - and a few have had overpayments found in the process.

Questions

Things freelancers usually ask first

Do you understand irregular income, multiple clients and IR35?+

Yes - freelancers and contractors are a core part of who we work with. Variable income, several clients at once, expenses spread across the year and outside-IR35 contracts are all familiar ground. You will not need to explain how freelancing works before getting a useful answer.

What does it cost, and what is included?+

Fees are fixed monthly and set out clearly before you commit. For limited company freelancers, packages start at GBP 150 + VAT per month. Working as a sole trader is a different scope, so ask for a fixed quote and you will have a figure within one working day. Unlimited advice is included - there is no charge for asking a question.

My books are behind. Can you still help?+

Catch-up work is common. The cost of bringing things current is quoted separately from the ongoing monthly fee, so there are no surprises. Most freelancers arrive with the books in some state of disarray and leave with considerably less to worry about.

Is there a minimum contract period?+

No long-term contract. If it is not working after three months, you leave with clean, filed records and nothing owed beyond the work completed. The expectation is a long-term relationship because it works, not because of a contract.

Should I stay a sole trader or go limited?+

It depends on your numbers - your income level, your costs, and what you expect over the next few years. We model the comparison using your actual figures rather than a generic answer. For some freelancers the tax position makes a limited company worthwhile; for others it adds admin without much benefit. The answer needs a calculation, not a rule of thumb.

Will I get the same accountant each time?+

Yes. You work with one named, qualified accountant who knows your situation, rather than a different person in a call centre each time. It is the difference our reviews mention most - support that feels personal and replies that arrive the day you ask.

Ready when you are

Less guessing about your tax. More certainty.

Accrue handles the compliance, plans the tax and keeps your books current - fixed fee, AAT-qualified, available when you need them.
